Buying A Vintage Handbag

By Jual Smaniott

Never fail with what history has already proven. Vintage fashion is so IN that you can see Hollywood stars wearing full vintage attire from their dresses to shoes and accessories. Buying vintage dresses though can be very tricky and without any attention to detail, you are easy prey for counterfeit sellers. Especially with bags since most counterfeiters target them. The advantage with vintage bags is that they can stand alone. Vintage bags can be paired to classic wear, normal wear or any type of fashion aside from vintage. And a vintage handbag alone can stand as a woman's fashion statement.

Each vintage handbag has its own story to tell. These handbags are unique pieces and as it got handed from person to person, the bag is much like a piece of jewelry carrying a story as it is passed around by each hand. Just like anything famous in the market, vintage handbags have been targeted by counterfeit artists and scammers.

The first rule to buying a vintage bag is getting it from a well-known and credible seller. Do not feel that the expensive price is such waste because buying authentic will most likely save you from the travel of going back and forth trying to have the counterfeit item your purchased replaced. Remember, most counterfeiters are really good at producing knock-offs and when buying online, better rely on the seller's feedback score.

Most likely, a vintage handbag will have a leather lining. If the vintage bag that you are looking at has loose and stitched lining, it's most likely to fake. Serial numbers do not answer for authenticity. Having a set of serial numbers doesn't mean the item is authentic. Better rely on a credible vintage seller to have a bag or serial number verified before purchasing.

You have to have a keen attention to details. Vintage bags have lasted as long as they have because the quality of the bags is really reliable. Like brass items attached to the bag, they wouldn't have lasted that long if the pieces were made of cheap plated metal. You can easily pay attention to the stiches and take a look if they look new or fabricated. Check for parts that can be repaired easily like zippers buttons and locks.
